ABOUT THE
PHOTOGRAPHER AND HIS IMAGES
“My
challenge is to capture people, scenes or events in today’s world that are
special and that represent a moment in time that will not be reproduced.
Sometimes those images may cause the viewer to reminisce about the past;
sometimes they permit the viewer to experience something they have not seen
before, or at least not as depicted in that image; or they may present the
beauty of unique parts of an otherwise ordinary scene. In each case, the image
is intended to capture something that will not be reproduced in exactly the same
way. Hopefully, they will evoke the feeling that the scenes depicted, or the
perspective from which they were taken, are special. My desire is to be creative
by composition and content.”
Phil Garrison
Although Phil Garrison’s photographs encompass
scenes from many areas of this and other countries, a large part of his work
represents scenes and people from the West and Southwestern United States. His
photographic interests are diverse, however. He is drawn not only to the cowboy
and native life of the West and Southwest, but also to flowers, architecture,
landscapes, people, or events that are unique, in whole or part, no matter where
he experiences them. Some of his photographs are like vignettes, focusing on a
smaller part that is unique and ordinarily obscured by the larger scene. Others
depict scenes that remind you of times past, or that truly represent one moment
in time that you will see only through those images. Some of them represent
“fine art” while others are more photojournalistic in nature. This photography
is truly diverse and unique.
Phil's photographs have won awards in the only shows or exhibitions he has
entered. The image of "Tuff" (found in the gallery "Interesting People") won
second in the Missouri Bar Art Show, and the image "Ready For Action" (found in
the gallery "Boots, Spurs and Chaps") won best of show at the Quicksilver
photography show at the Cheyenne, Wyoming Old West Museum.
